Images of Comet C2011 L4 Panstarrs
While
waiting to spot the comet for the first time on 13 March 2013, I took
this picture of the crescent Moon while an aircraft flew in front, a
lucky shot.
As
seen on the image above, there were a lot of clouds, especially near
the horizon. It was freezing cold but the wait was worthwile as I could
spot the comet just for a very short time.
The next day was a better:
Then
a period with clouds, the next opportunity was on 29 March 2013, this
time I could capture the comet from my observatory, between a tree and
a house and also some clouds. The image below is cropped out of the
original, it is a stack of 5 images.
After
I captured the comet on 29 March, I made an image of M45 and M42 with
the same setup, then put the three images next to each other, not
cropped but size reduced for this webpage, this gives some comparison
of relative size. The images of M45 and M42 were 1 minute exposure.
