MPEC U244: COMET C/2020 S8 (Lemmon)

An object initially submitted as a NEO candidate by Mount Lemmon Survey

(G96) on Sept. 18 UT has been found to display cometary features.  D. Rankin reported the comet appeared to consist of two fragments in four 30 second coadded exposures taken Oct. 5 at Steward Observatory, Mt. Lemmon Station (I52).

Prediscovery detections have been found going back to the end of July.  Reports of cometary features are as follows:
